Hiring for Success
September 24
Learn how to write a clear, concise job description and select the proper candidate for any position. Discuss defining job requirements, matching skill sets to resumes or applications, and analyzing salaried and hourly positions. Review interviewing techniques with special emphasis on cultural implications and biases.

Communications for Leaders I

Learning effective leadership skills is imperative as we assume supervisory positions or aspire to them. As a leader, your communication ability and style not only affect your career and professional development, but will also motivate, influence and challenge your coworkers. Learn to coach your employees using effective leadership communication, use confrontation to promote change, and understand communication types, specifically written, nonverbal and e-mail.

Improving Performance, Communication and Satisfaction through the Performance Review Process
September 16
Gain the knowledge and skills needed to conduct performance reviews that support the BGSU strategic plan and area goals while meeting the professional needs of employees. Practical recommendations are offered to overcome the barriers that often compromise the effectiveness of the performance review process, such as failing to have enough information to defend an evaluation about a subordinate’s performance, or preferring to avoid constructive confrontation during the performance review interview.

Customer Service Excellence—Making it Count!

Everyone we come in contact with can be considered our customer, so how do we make it count? This session will explore the Bowen-Thompson Student Union’s philosophy on customer service. The program includes a multimedia presentation, sharing of resources and real life war stories covering tough customer service situations. Learn how to build excellent customer service practices into your everyday work environment.

Generational Work Environment—Managing for Success

Each generation is characterized by its own personality, values and experiences. This interactive session will present information about the newest members of the workforce—the Millennial generation. In addition to providing an overview of the generation, participants will discuss some of the most up-to-date findings about who Millennial generation adults actually are, rather than who we thought they would be. Be prepared to be informed, engaged and entertained.
